SANTA MARIA LAGUNA CELEBRATES NATIONAL ARTS MONTH

February is National Arts Month, and yes, we do celebrate it here in Santa Maria! Different contests were held in the area of drawing, declamation, poem-writing, oratory and interpretative dance.

The Drawing Contest involved the elementary and high school level. It was held at Santa Maria Elementary School Session Hall on February 18, morning.

The judges were wowed by the students' artwork. The deliberation took quite a while for many of the entries were worth recognizing. Our hometown is filled with artists waiting to be tapped.

A remarkable piece of art made by Xavier Perez making him the winner of the said drawing competition (High School Level). Thus, it was suggested to be the next design for the T- shirt for the upcoming Marilag Festival.

The Interpretative Dance Contest was held in the afternoon at the Town Plaza. Santa Maria Academy and Santa Maria National High School were involved in the competition.

The elementary pupils exhibited their talents as well. I was quite amazed with the presentation from Santa Maria Elementary School. Great props and execution!

Let me congratulate the SMNHS troupe who got the 1st prize in the dance competition. They got emotional when the winner was announced. Way to go, folks!

Theatrically-inclined students flocked the Declamation Contest.

Let me acknowledge the board of judges for wholeheartedly critiquing the  presentations.

Sir Manuel Bondad, the Tourism Head spearheaded the whole event.

Mayor Tony Carolino gave a brief remark about  celebrating the National Arts' Month.

The theme of the event was 'Ani ng Sining: Ganap na Kaunlaran, Bunga ng Pagtututulungan.' The whole-day celebration contributed in honing and discovering the artistic talents of our young people. I congratulate the people involved in the event: the organizers, delegates, teachers and the board of judges.
